Looking back on his extraordinary life, David Irving recalls the experiences and pathway choices that led him to become a best-selling author and world-known historian. He relates how he came to write The Destruction of Dresden, and how the success of that first, breakthrough book enabled him to meet and then earn the trust of men and women who had worked closely with Hitler. He relates memorable anecdotes from his meetings with Hitler’s physician, female secretaries, adjutant, and others. Interviews with such key individuals, along with information from diaries, documents and other records gathered over decades, went into Hitler’s War, his most important and influential work. The Hitler of Hollywood and conventional historiography, Irving says, is not at all the man whom his closest associates knew and worked with for years. This 72-minute talk was given at a meeting on Oct. 20, 2012, in Irvine, California.
